Privacy policy
A plain-English summary of what sowhat collects, why it is used, and the choices you have over your data.
What we collect
We collect account details, the profile information you choose to provide, and limited product usage information needed to keep the service relevant, secure, and working properly.
Why we collect it
This helps sowhat tailor relevance, support account access, improve product quality, and operate the service responsibly.
How it is used
Data is used to tailor interpretations, maintain your account, generate stored briefings, and understand where the product needs to improve.
SoWhat may also use third-party public data and metadata sources, including GDELT, to corroborate selected events and assess whether coverage appears isolated, limited, or broader. These sources are used for context and signal-checking only. They do not create user profiles, determine personal relevance, or replace the original cited sources shown with a briefing.
These checks are based on event terms and public-source matching, not on sharing your private profile with those sources.
Chrome extension
The sowhat Chrome extension only accesses page data when you click it. If you have text selected, it reads that selected text. If nothing is selected, it uses the current page URL instead.
The extension opens sowhat Ask with that value prefilled. It does not monitor browsing in the background, inject overlays into third-party pages, or make direct API calls from the extension itself. Any further processing happens on the sowhat website after you are taken there.
Your rights
You can review and update your profile in the app, and you may request account or data-related help subject to applicable law and the needs of the service.
